Are there rules or social protocols prohibiting backup beepers on rigs? The backup camera on our new-to-us RV reminds me of the cheap little black and white TVs we had years ago - the ones we thought were just fine until we could afford a better TV. I could probably see an elephant in it, if the elephant were dancing around and waving at me; but it's often pretty hard to tell what the picture's showing.One option is, of course, to upgrade to a better TV or maybe a better camera. But I'm also thinking about a backup beeper.These are, granted, irritating things if you're not behind the RV, about to get run over; but they're sure handy if you are in that situation.But maybe it's considered gauche beyond words; or maybe some federal, state, or other parks won't allow them.I'd appreciate thoughts and advice.

Never seen anything written one way or the other as far as "rules".Now social protocol would depend on where you are and how many you areannoying. Such as parked campers in a resort.

I haven't heard of any rules against them. I agree, they can be annoying - especially late at night when the other folks in the campground/park are trying to sleep. Maybe you could install an on-off switch for it, so you can choose to turn it off when the circumstances don't require it.Also, remember a beeper won't tell you there's a tree stump behind your rig, etc.

Although I do not have a C I do have a removable back up beeper that just plugs into the 7 pin connector on my F250. I really think it is a good idea in our neighbourhood with lots of kids and in campgrounds with lots of kids/people. It does have an on/off switch and obviously I only use it when I do not have the trailer in tow.

My spotter standing at the rear, "beeps" just fine to provide warnings. The only one that is real scary is when she yells into the radio:"STOP."

I have installed a backup beeper, have the positive wire tied into my backup lamps and ran the ground wire to a switch under the dash so I can turn it on when needed and off when I don't need it. Dick

I put one on my tow vehicle and yes its annoying but I would rather annoy than run over someone. Got to remember you are looking out for them and yourself. Many annoy with their slow driving etc, so if ya want one put it on, you are not in reverse all that much or long.

Like car alarms no one really pays attention. I always walk around and use someone to watch. I doubt a 5 year old on a bicycle would care about what's beeping.

I don't know of any rules regulating the beepers.
But, I can't wait until some government agency decides they should be standard safety equipment on all vehicles.
Can you imagine what a grocery store, Walmart, Lowes etc. parking lot will sound like? :E
