I really don't think that they needed the A/C as the highway was only plowed out a week ago or so. And yes, as Jrooster said,it is a bit more than a cow path. It has several steep uphill and down hills and a number of tight hairpin curves. I could imagine that it may have overheated on one of the hills and caught fire.
