Bakersfield to Pahrump

Was just wondering, we are planning on going over to Pahrump from Bakersfield. Was just wondering what the Highways 127 & 178 we're like or would we be better off staying on I-15 till Vegas and take Highway 160.

We'll make the trip in a 45 Class A with Towed

Thanks everyone

What is there to do in Pahrump?

There's a couple of nice establishments just outside of town on the North side. I think they raise rabbits there because I think one is called a Bunny Ranch! I've heard you don't want to bring your wife if you go there but I don't know why.

There is also a nice sports bar with a little diner on the south side. Friends of ours said they were taking us us the the Brothel for lunch and, like a fool, I thought it was a bar and grill with a brothel theme. Well I was sort of right and it was entertaining when they took all of us for a tour. Nice place, good food, drinks, and scenery.

    Stayed at Terrbiles Lakeside.

I assume you are talking about taking 127 out of Baker up to 178....correct? If yes, that's a good road, and you shouldn't have any problems with it. I would go that way rather than all the way into LV.

Are you contemplating going through DV at all?

  • Good roads. Only slow down is during the winter months on Holiday weekends very busy as you go right past Dumont Dunes.
  • Made that drive in a 40' with tow a couple years ago.......two lane road, don't remember any problems.....other then some very remote areas. Some interesting desert sites.

  • Hi Trap! Hubby and I have made that trip in our 45' bus with dinghy. It's an easy relaxing drive, and you will avoid the climb over Mt Charleston too. That is our route of choice for coming or going to southern California.
  • 127/178 no problem at all. Two lane road through the desert with the normal sand heaves so don't expect to drive over 55. Other than that good road, have done it many times.
