banks system on a ford e450 m/home 30'

I have 30 ft Tioga m/home with a ford v10. I am looking for some feedback from anyone who has one or knows about same. Advice, pros
and cons. Is there a power advantage, does your mileage increase. Any help wopuld be appreciated.
Thank you

  • You cant have both. Power equals reduced fuel economy. Fuel economy means reduced power.

While that is generally true, both CAN increase if the original tune was WAY off.....which is unlikely.

I loaded mine up this spring and haven't had a chance to test anything yet.....except the tow/haul mode which now seems to have a much more positive action; holds lower gears longer and shifts crisply.

All I'm hoping for is to be able to leave the cruise control set and NOT have it downshift near the top of the smallest little hills.
  • I've got the banks power pack system on mine. previous owner put it on, so I don't have numbers before it was installed. system has k&n canister air filter. mass air flow sensor was moved, new exhaust system. I took it down to california last christmas and drove it through the mountains just north of LA and up the coast. Whole thing handled great. Plenty of power for that old an engine. Exhaust sounds cool too, better than my v10 van. is it worth it? hard to say. gas millage was around 8-9, but was driving through twisty winding back roads as well as flat highways. this is my first MH, previously towed a TT. I had fun driving it (wife got car sick) I could probably driven faster through the mountains, but didn't feel safe pushing too much.
  • I would look into a higher rear axle ratio. Not as big of a jump in power, but much cheaper.
  • Look at a 5 star tune. Gives a bit more power and plays with the shift points all within ford specs.

  • I have the 5 Star tune and highly recommend it. More power and better fuel economy. The transmission shift changes alone are worth it.

Isn't that exactly the same as the "Banks system" just from a different distributor ??
  • I have a 5 star tune on my '03 V-10 and don't see any difference in fuel economy; however, the tranny and cruise control are much better behaved. There might be a small improvement in engine performance. 5 star can tune it to address specific preferences you may have. I would buy it again.
