Bath tub/ Shower issue

I have just noticed this issue in our new to us 92 Southwind. The "drain end" of the tub looks like it is lower than the back end. now I assume it should be a little tilted but there seems to be a gap that I can stick my pinky up in and I don't think that's a good thing! Some type of foam tape in there too. Please see pics and give me your best idea on this :) (sorry for it being not real clean-- we have been working on other things in the MH and now it is in a storage warehouse)

If you are worried... The panels are often designed so there is some "room to adjust" as it were, that is the lower panel extends up inches under the upper panel.

Double face tape is a common way to mount the upper panel.
  • I have a 1990 Southwind. My pan dropped. When I took of one side I found it mounted on Styrofoam that had compressed over time. I used Luan plywood and shoved pieces under until the gap disappeared.

    I used some

    to finish the project
  • There are two ways to fix this. The "right way" and the "wrong way".

The right way is probably doing some surgery on the coach. You'll have to remove the shower fixture and totally redo the wood behind.

The wrong way is the "duct tape way". Fill the gap with caulking and let it dry. May work for the rest of the life of the coach, may fail.

It's one of those things where I'd just analyze it and figure which job is easier. Sometimes I do thing right but other times I just "make it work" and go camping.
  • I had an access panel in the wheel well come loose and throw road grit and water into the area under the shower. If I hadn't caught it, the plywood under the shower would had rotted out and the tub would have dropped. I would definitely go looking for the removable panel inside that allow access to the plumbing for the tub and check the state of things under there.
  • I have stood in there and it doesn't seem to "give"---don't know if my hubs has stood in there yet though. I was going to clean and caulk but i don't remember seeing this when we first looked at the MH.
  • When I started owning my own RV's back in 2000 I bought a Springdale that was exactly like that... And when I stood near the drain it would push down... I took a couple kitchen catcher garbage bags and shoved them under and filled them with spray foam
  • Betting there has been a water leak that has deteriorated the wood structure beneath the shower allowing it to drop. Hope not because if so you'll have too remove shower to fix.
