Batteries discharging

I have a 2014 Fleetwood Storm Class A all batteries are discharging within 4 to 5 days even with everything off. I have no idea what is causing the discharge. Anybody have an idea?

  • TV boost for the antenna. Very easy for it to be on and for you to forget about it. Also, lights in bays - during the day you may not realize they are on. Parastic loads - not much you can do about them. I would assume you have a battery disconnect switch in your rig.

    You say ALL the batteries are discharging.
    Do you mean both the house (coach) and Chassis (engine) batteries are going down?

    I am guessing you don't have disconnect switches on either or you have not found them. If the later is the case, I can't help you there as I don't know much about a Fleetwood Storm.

    With the four or five days, I go along with the light left on...
    When I worked in a passcar dealership, we called this the 3-Day dead battery mystery. Most of the victims had a light on in the hood, glove compartment, or truck.

    If you want to find it without taking it back to a dealership, get a tiny 12V bulb (like side marker or courtesy light) and connect two wires with clips. Disconnect one of of the battery and put the bulb in series. If there is any drain at all, it will light.
    Then,
    Keep turning things off, pulling fuses, and disconnecting things until it goes out completely.

    This is the sort of work I did on yachts before the depression.

  • Leave it plugged into 115V or buy some solar panels to keep the batteries charged.
    That is what I done/did.
  • If you have disconnected the coach batteries via the battery disconnect switch and are having this problem. Call Fleetwood, that thing is a 2014 and should be under warranty.

    Something may not be wired right.
  • buy a multi meter with clamp on ac/dc current capability, learn to use it, you will save yourself lots of money and time in your future!
  • You need to know what your parasitic loads are and you already may have damage to your batteries depending on how far they have been discharged. If below 50% SOC (state of charge) some damage has been done!
    The only way to assure that the only drain is internal to the batteries is to pull the negative batter terminal(s)once batteries are fully charged. I installed my cutoff switch and the only load when that is off is the Victron battery monitor. I alos chose an AGM battery which has a much slower self discharge.
  • Questions. Are you turning "OFF" the battery switch by the door? Recommendation, without knowing all the details. Get the batteries fully charged, plug it in overnight, run the generator three hours, pull the batteries and charge them at home.. Then with them disconnected see if they hold a charge. I always turn OFF the battery switch and I installed a cut off switch on the chassis (starting) battery..
    Try the ideas, answer the question, and let us know..
  • I would guess that something is not actually off. Your CO and propane detector cannot be turn off so they are dragging down the batteries. Mirror heat is something that some owners forget about and leave on. If your inverter/charger is left on, it will drain the batteries in a few days.
    You can put a meter on your battery leads and see how much power is being drained but I suspect that it will surprise you at how many things are still drawing power even tho you think everything is off.
  • Dennis, I had this happen to me. Did you check the lights in the outside compartments.
    Do you use the 12 volt, disconnect switch, when not in use?
