For purposes of economics, any chance of running the software on new laptops instead of investing megabucks into a marginal RV power system and bouncing your trusty desktops around? Laptops with their internal batteries are fairly bullet-proof regarding power and still run off low consumption.
I once had a desktop that I specifically designed for 640x480 video rendering and HD TV Tuner/DVR duty. But I noted that a laptop would do the video rendering work to disc, just a lot slower. The slowest link was the hard drive speed, but that is fixable with lightening fast solid state drives now, maybe even running external off USB 3. Some of the laptops with a video chip designed for gaming should work best for graphics.
