The danger is when fast charging. or jump starting. you can "Gas" the battery (The battery gives off something called Brown's gas. 2 parts Oxygen one part hydrogen.. Yup. add a spark and you have a bad scene. very bad).
SO when you BREAK the connection As Marvin desires one can get an Earth Shattering KA-BOOM (Well at least from your point of view)
You can make that last connection to any UNPAINTED part of the engine OR Frame. The engine block is electrically bonded to the frame..
