I have a charger that I leave on my classic car but it has an Auto feature. Once the battery is charged it goes into a sleep mode until it is needed again. I don't know why you couldn't use the same thing. The charger side failed once on the converter of a 5th wheel we had. Luckily I had a battery charger with me, didn't have the Auto mode, so I used it to keep the batteries charged until we got home which was a week. It worked! If you don't have some type of Auto mode you can boil the batteries and potentially cause damage to them.
