Battery wiring problem. Everything stopped

Glad to hear that everything is OK. I think you got lucky!!

To back up, I had immediately disconnected 6v and the hot engine batts. I shut down the inverter circuit breakers and the interior control panel. Now to today, my tech had seen a similar situation and after confirming I had everything off proceeded to rewire the 6v batts. When they got secured the inverter lit 2 of the gel check lights which he confirmed as good. Went inside and turned everything on on the panel and fired her up. Not a problem. I ran everything - refer, microwave, AC.

Hot batts was attributed to surge through inverter back to starting batts. I have an email in for a clarification

So what was wired wrong?
And why were chassis batteries HOT?

Details..........can't just leave us hanging, wondering.

NOW take some pics of the wiring....from all angles and not only store them on your PC but print them out and keep inside the coach

Thanks everyone. Had a mobile tech out to look at it. Wired it correctly and checked it out and everything worked. Fired up and purred. Everything worked. I got lucky. No fried wires relatively low cost lesson learned.

Combo inverter/charger....OK. Won't be any fuses.but should be Circuit Breakers on inverter.

BUT before doing anything.....

Have you disconnected the HOT engine batteries?

Have you checked the cable connections on the 4 6v house batteries ie: identified which cable is actually negative (goes to frame/grounded)??

Have you check how t properly wire 4 6V batteries as per pictures posted vs how you wired them?

Hmmm... possibly you will need a new engine battery, a new alternator, fridge-furnace-hot water circuit boards, converter, inverter, tank display board, engine computer, transmission computer, and anything else that was connected to the 12 volt system when this accident happened. Insurance??

It behooves you to get your 6VDC BATTERIES DISCONNECTED ASAP and determine what damage has been done. This is serious my friend if you have indeed been supplying 24VDC to your present 12VDC battery system...

You probably will need to get some professional hands on help on this one... Probably too much at stake here for us to help over the internet...

Not on shore power. I have a Xantrax freedom combi inverter charger. Still don't see a fuse.

Please get those batteries completely disconnected. You may have an explosion if you don't... You may have also destroyed your truck start battery as well...

consider this wiring diagram for two groups of 6VDC batteries wired in series...

This is how 4ea 6VDC batteries should be wired.


If you wired them all in series then you are producing 24VDC to the 12VDC system.. That is bad NEWS... You may have burned up a bunch of 12VDC items that were connected when you hit them with 24VDC. Hopefully blown fuses or melted in two wiring have saved you.

You really need to have a multimeter and be using this to determine thing before you commit yourself. Hope all turns out OK for you...

Would also like to know what color of wiring you have around your batteries...

The RV WORLD uses BLACK for HOT or +12VDC and WHITE for GROUND or -12VDC.

The AUTOMOTIVE WORLD uses RED for HOT or +12VDC and BLACK for GROUND or -12VDC.

Sometimes these get mixed up since the battery is used in both worlds...
