Been thinking...need advice...

I've posted other requests for information regarding this subject and received good replies. The subject is downsizing from a Class A to a Class C. We're right on the cusp of signing a contract but I have one remaining concern. We're looking at a '17 Thor Gemini. It's on a Ford chassis with a 5 cyl. diesel engine. Now the question: Our toad is a 3200# CRV. Will the 5 cyl. engine be adequate to pull the CRV even on mtn. grades? Most of our travel is in flat-land but occasionally will hit grades in Wesern N.C. / Will appreciate any thoughts or advice regarding this. / Thanks. , Larry

  • You'll be close but as long as you're not loading the coach to it's limits. Per Thor's on line specs the Ford based chassis GVWR is 10,360 and GCWR is 13,500 so if the coach is loaded to maximum you'll be overweight by 100 lbs or so. If you go with the Sprinter based chassis you'll have an extra 1000 lbs to play with. Double check the hitch and ensure it is 5000 lbs capacity.

The elephant in the corner is what is the empty weight and how much stuff can you pack in.
  • I don't know how old the Thor Gemini is, but the mid 2000 Sprinters, up to about 2008, a lot of them had 3000 lb hitch ratings.

You can look at the GCWR to start with. As long as you are not exceeding GVWR or GCWR, you should be fine.

Good advice. I'll do exactly that. Thanks!

Have you tried the class C forum...might get better responses.
