A lot of LEOs will not like you carrying concealed when you approach including me. I would hope that you would leave it in the coach but the bottom line is that you should inform me you are armed. I will probably ask you if I can hold it for you during the stop. If you say no, expect to have several patrol cars surrounding you. Some young cops have not developed the same experience that us old farts have. I wouldn't bat an eye if you told me you were carrying. I would watch you very closely but the way I see it is if you told me that you are armed, and were smart enough to have all your papers in your hand and not have to dig, then I'm not too worried about you. You would be justified to stay in the drivers seat until I directed you to come out. Don't expect me to hang my happy ass out in traffic to come to your window. I will approach as I said and give you hand signals to come out. If you don't come out, expect to meet the majority of my squad and you have now given me reasonable suspicion to do a protective sweep of the interior of your RV. Believe me when I say that we know the law and we know the local law as it has been modified by case law in our States for a long time. It's the rare cop that will jeopardize their career just to see the inside of your RV when they don't have the legal right to do so.
Trust me I have every respect for the law. One, I can tell you I'm not coming out for reasons you have noted if I haven't seen you and your badge ( young cops who value their safety more than mine.) I will notify you I'm legally armed, but I'm not walking out the door doing it. Why should I disarm first as you said above when I have every legal right to carry it even in a traffic stop. Once we establish I have it, and you are who you claim you are, turning it over isn't a problem then. Actually doing what you suggesting leaving it in the MH makes me carrying illegal for having it open in the MH on the seat or dash , etc. If I'm pulled over I have no way of telling if your even a legal officer, we have a rash of fake cops pulling people over up here in Michigan on the freeways. A trooper isn't too hard to spot if I can actually see the vehicle or verify they are a cop. Coming to the window or door seems way more logical than suggesting I exit first.
This is my reason for asking. Side door or driver window. Just opening the main door and pass all documents through the screen door while stating that I'm legally carrying. Even allowing a LEO to stand on the steps can allow them to get a good look inside looking for other reasons to snoop. You won't find them in mine, but LEO's have a better knowledge of what gives them the right to move forward with search than we do.
Please don't take me the wrong way as I respect the LEO's and appreciate what they do. But trust me when I tell you I've known some bad ones and some who don't even know the guns laws. This me exiting first before I now you are who you claim to be, I've never hear of this.
