No way are they coming in without a warrant. Period.
I would stay in my seat with my hands on the steering wheel.
Wait for the LEO to walk up to the side window and be ready to hand him or her my info.
Why would this make you suspicious? Passenger side is ok too.
I have been told by several LEOs to keep your hands visible at the top of the steering wheel preferably with your DL and ins card or wallet in hand.
In my coach, my hands on the wheel cannot be seen by an officer coming up to my window. I would push open the window and have both hands outside the coach in full view.
I also know that the officer can legally inspect the driver's area of my coach, without a warrant, if he reasonably believes that his safety may be in jeopardy. This is something that you can argue all you want to at the side of the road, but you will lose the argument. He can also order ALL occupants of the vehicle to exit while he inspects the driver's area.
