Have carried an unmounted 22.5" spare since 2006. Haul it in the back of our toad. First in our our Sport Trac and now our Flex. It hides under a platform I built in the rear area, with other items on top, when we park for the winter in Texas it comes out and is put in our shed at our Texas RV Lot. You might it think it would take up to much room, but inside the tire, which I haven't needed since acquiring, I store similar items seldom used but a life saver when needed. Our 50' amp cord (which is used maybe twice a year), our 75' 3/4" macerator hose (used less than once a year),three different draw bars for the hitch on the toads and a set of magnetic towing lights in case the wiring fails on the toad.
