Best Route From Idaho Falls to Sturgis

I'm looking for suggestions on the best route from Idaho Falls to Surgis for a 44' MH with a toad. My mapping software has me going up 20 towards W. Yellowstone than taking 287 and eventually picking up I90 at Bozeman. The plan is to overnight around Billing than continue on to Sturgis.

There was another routing that took me E from IF and winds the mountains and the Tetons eventually connecting to I25 at Casper. This route looks shorter but more difficult to drive.

Thanks for any thoughts.
  • Thanks for the responses. Reckon up through W. Yellowstone will work the best....might even stop for a couple of days. I'm heading up on Thursday and the long range weather looks pretty favorable.
  • I-90 is the best route but, if you care to go and visit the Devils Tower you can go to Sturgis thru the back route via Spearfish! My motorcycle riding days are dwindling but, I was in a motorcycle club that made Sturgis a mandatory run every year. Lots of great memories and we always stayed in Rapid City there was more stuff going on there during bike week!
  • I think the 287 to I-90 route is probably best. Depends what time of year you're going; winter could have some issues with either route. Haven't been the other way, but it seems longer, and possibly with fewer choices of places to stay.
