Like many we leave our black closed until 3.4 or better. Not mentioned is that unless you have a "trap" built in to your hose such as a verticle loop you have a direct line to your coach for odor thru an open grey tank. Many coaches have no traps in their gray water system so an open tank could let odor up the hose to your open holding tank (Gray) and into your coach. Just a thought.
