- dubdub07ExplorerI have always had the mindset to trust, but verify. Verify is my 9MM.
I conceal carry. I would never pull it unless the next step is to use it. My wife stands behind me with the Defender.
This is 2016. There are some crazy a$$ people out there these days. Not worth sacrificing my family for an incident.
Rest areas, truck stops, and Wal-Mart. Seriously, being cautious in those places is prudent.
Couple in NM were kidnapped in their truck camper and killed.

Not me.
WW - pawattExplorerI knocked on someone's door last week at 9:30 P.M. they had left their truck door wide open and were unaware.
- DachristianmanExplorerI'm sure people look at my 02 Winnebago and just dream about the wealth that awaits them on the other side of the door. I guess if I drove some of the rigs you all drive, I'd be more worried.
I'm the guy that leaves his doors unlocked on my car when I park it. I figure if someone wants to steal an 06 minivan, they must really need a ride...and I doubt there is anything in our van that someone would want, except maybe the child seat or an empty McDonalds bag. :-) The way I see it, there is more risk to my electric locks eventually breaking then there is to someone wanting in.
On a similar note, my brother-in-law use to leave a note on his stereo asking any thieves to utilize the quick disconnects and not to destroy his truck wiring. They stole his stereo and ejected his cassette tape...guess they didn't appreciate his style of music.
Tom - Thunder_MountaiExplorer IINothing new here from these kinds of threads. So, let's flip this. You are in a campground, and you are walking the dog and the cat walks across the door lock. You are locked out of your unit with no cell phone or keys. HOW do you approach another unit and ask for help, and how do you react to someone who sounds in distress?
- RV_daytraderExplorerThis is why I am putting a piece of clear AR lexan in my door window. If someone knocks at night, I turn on my floodlight and flip up the shade that covers the door window at night....oh, and 38 special in hand also!
- rickeoniExplorerNever had the happen in 4 decades of camping, don't know anyone who has had this happen either. I have seen bears tearing up campsites, kids throwing rocks, people acting like morons and numerous other acts of stupidity. If you are worried about your safety, find another way to travel.

We have never been approached in a rest area, truck stop or Walmart. I don't often stop for very long in a truck stop anymore as there are not enough spaces for all the trucks and the truck drivers do not appreciate MH's in their spots.
What do you mean "THEIR SPOTS" ???? we paid road taxes too, Truckers do not own the highways, even though some act like they do. - TechWriterExplorer

What are your thoughts to a late night knock on your motor home door while parked in a rest area or truck stop. What to do and how to handle it. I carry a 12Ga Defender and hope that i never have to use it. Just looking for different ways of handling it.
Holster the iron, Tex.
The only time this happened to me it turned out to be a park ranger who wanted us to put our campfire out.
Nevertheless, I installed a wireless video camera/doorbell. Now I can actually SEE who it is before unleashing the dogs of war. - GoldencrazyExplorerI agree with posters that rest areas are getting less desirable. When I use them I must walk the dogs so am careful. I have everything ready to go so if needed I can pull out without leaving the coach and that is my defense. I don't have weapons.
