Best way to haul a quad?

I have taken a quad two different ways. First time was loaded on a Ford Ranger I used to tow behind the coach. It was perfect to go out in hunting trips, Quartzite etc etc.

I also have a utility trailer which I made out of a single jet ski trailer. It also worked real good.

Now you do not mention what kind of coach you have, but a quad 350 CC and bigger are pretty heavy and I would be very careful as to how much over hang weight you put on that rear axle. Now if you have a tag, then there is no problem, but other then that, I would really check to see if it is not going to create a problem with the handling of the steering, plus you do not want to over load the max capacity of the rear axle.

"Now that's some Okie engineering right there!." If these side by sides were not so tall I would have built your normal four post double deck stacker on the 16' car trailer I already own. I actually had everything to build the rack other than the PT wood and the pulley at the top of the A frame. Had to buy a used trailer with a 18' deck to make everything work so it's lower than my MHand the ATV will not hit the MH in a turn. No duct tape or bailing wire used and it turned out pretty good for the first try. My daddy said "Think three times, measure two times, and cut once" so there was a fair amount of scratching and measuring going on.
Like Msmith I cannot close my tail gate either.

Make sure you buy a pickup that it fits in too. I have a Dodge Dakota which is a medium size pickup, and both my quads fit (one at a time) but it's a snug fit. I have a single seat quad and a double seat quad. I can't close the tailgate with either of them in it. I have a Extended cab model and I think my bed is 6 1/2 feet. Those quads can be bigger than they look.

If the UTV was on top of the truck I'd be over 14' high which on even some interstates could be a problem.

It depends a lot on the camper you choose. Mine accomodates a carrier very well, a lot of them don't. It would be pretty simple to have two hitch receivers welded to the frame rails and a strong fairly light rack made to put the ATV on. You don't need a lift as the ATV can climb up like a billy goat, a short ramp would do. I wouldn't use the center hitch receiver just the 2 side receivers. Most lifts weigh around 300#, I would think a simple rack could be half that. I was going to build one but didn't want to give up carrying my motorcycle so I stick the ATV in the pickup I tow.

Calculating the weight has been mentioned and is very important. I don't think it matters much if you exceed the rear axle rating a little but whatever you do don't exceed the tire ratings.

I built this rack so the total height is not more than my MH. OP, you could put the car on and the DW would not have to drive it. With a hitch on the car you could use it to move the trailer when necessary at a CG.

That blue ox looks like a viable option for a quad on a 40 DP. We don't plan on staying in many campgrounds and looking to use this when we dry camp for the most part.

I think the best answer is to buy a pick up and load it in the back long term..

I'm parked next to a Idaho Tote. It looks like a solution to some towing problems. My neighbor is pulling his toad behind his Idaho Tote.
