Best way to purify the water in holding tank

I am wanting to purify the water in the holding tank to be safe. Just not sure the best method to use. This the water we shower with and wash dishes with.

Water can sit in a fresh water tank for several months without experiencing problems. However, if the tank was not sanitized prior to using it this season, then the water in it should be drained and the tank sanitized as indicated above. You don't have to use a chlorine mixture as hydrogen peroxide will do the trick without the chlorine odor.

How much hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons of water?

  • Are you asking to sanitize the system? The bleach method is good for that. Purifying the water for a shower? For drinking, I just run my tank water through a PUR filter.

why purify it?Do you purify your shower water at home:h
His home water doesn't likely sit in a small tank.
  • 1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gallons of water. Let sit 3+ hours, drain, refill with water, drain again
  • I'm sure you mean the potable tank and not the holding (black) tank.

The best and simplest way is to dump the tank as refill it with city water that has a chlorine residual. If you live on your own well, just talk to a friend that has city water.

Dumping in bleach is a real bother because you will probably get too much and then the water will "swimming pool" for a few fills.
