I'm fine with cameras in NYC on street such as the one that observed the guy attacking folks with a hammer. And it's general public knowledge they are there.
On red light cameras, in addition to what has been discussed about revenue and right turns on red, apparently you have to stop for 3 seconds in some states or you ran the red. An acquaintance got a ticket for it. I stop behind the line and fully arrest the momentum of my vehicle. After that I counted to 3 after a full stop and it is a long time. A city can roll up lots of folks who abided by intent of the law and posed no danger to public safety.
When is the camera safety and when is it a revenue hunt?
