I have a CCW permit as well, last time I checked it was 34 state good but that changes from time to time. When a cop pulls my tag they know I have the permit. We went to Canada for a car event a few back, when at the border I was asked "how many guns do you own". I was surprised told him several and he asked me to tell him. After I gave him the overview he asked "if I search your car will I find any guns or ammo" I have to admit by now Im getting irritated, but it's their country. I responded by saying "I fully understand the laws for your country and never would attempt to bring a firearm in"
I was asked to go sit on bench while they took my car a part. All luggage out, floor mats jockey box contents ashtray hood up etc. They were confused a bit that had no spare (mini cooper)
They finally let me go with everything but a cavity search.
When we returned home I asked the owner of the range I use (he's a deputy with lifetime of service both civilian and military)
He explained that my permit will come up on most any system by tag number or drivers license. He said he could not be sure but chances were a camera read the tag and the rcmp new I had the CCW before the car even stopped.
I hope they spend as much time on a bunch of guys with beards and turbans driving Toyota pick ups.
I don't want to be contrary at a border but the answer to how many firearms do I own is "I have no firearms in my possession." They have a right to know what I am bringing into their country but how is what I own at home their business? I would seek to de-escelate but asking how many guns I own vice in my possession is like doctors now being able to ask how many guns I own.
