BF Goodrich Sumitomo or Samson

I am down to three options for tires. One is BF Goodrich from a local tire store Sumitomo from a different local shop and Samson from our local Camping World. Any opinions on any of these? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

  • Can't talk about the other two, but BFG's I can. Had them on my MH and was very happy with the life and wear. If I had to say anything bad it would be that the steer tire sidewalls may have had a little too much sway in them (compared to the old Mich's.) After a few hundred miles I didn't even notice.
  • I put ST778 Sumitomomos on four years ago and have been totally satisfied,

I have Goodyear right now. So Japaneese tires are ok? Found something interesting - sounds like they are all in it together!

In 1997, Sumitomo formed a joint venture with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, by which Goodyear and Sumitomo agreed to manufacture tires for each other's markets, including Dunlop branded tires. As part of the agreement, Goodyear acquired 75% interests in Dunlop Tyres, the UK company which Sumitomo had formed, and in Dunlop Tire Corporation. Goodyear and Sumitomo also made investments in each other.

BF GOODRICH says on their website: However, we are an international company, with manufacturing operations at 74 plants across 19 countries around the world. To meet the needs of our customers by providing more specialized tire lines in smaller quantities, we import some tire lines into North America and we export others from North America.

SO: how do you know where they are coming from until you get them? NO ONE in my area actually carry the tires, I have to decide and order them without ever seeing them first.

    Toyos? Double Coins, Bridgestones?

Toyo - can't get locally in load range H

Double Coins - can't get locally period - unless I want 295/75 instead of 295/80

Bridgestone - not paying that much. Local price was a lil over $5k
  • I have spent most of my life in the tire industry, and lastly as a consultant to the over the road industry...one constant was never recommending brands but for all of my clients using tires with tapered beads never use any tire coming out of China...which is what I'm sure you're using. Simply check the country of origin before making the deal.

  • FIRST, look at the weight carrying rating for each, then walk away from the Samson. They are lightweight tires and even though there are some good reports, they are marginal for heavy RVs.

My choice of those would be the Sumitomo as they have a stellar rating among RVers and they are priced reasonable, at least around here.
