I am a tad confused. I spoke with a motor home mechanic and was told that air bags truly are not necessary unless your rig is close or over weight. Then I was told by someone who put air bags on their motorhome that the installation made the coach handle better in the wind and on uneven road surfaces. Anyone have an idea which is remotely correct?
This coming spring I'm having my shocks and springs checked to see if new ones are warranted. This discussion on Monrow vs Bilstein has been quite informative.
I think it comes down to what they are installed on, for a 18,000lbs or more motorhome it helps with driving comfort, but on a 3/4 ton truck maybe only good while loaded, so far my ride is better, less hammering of the F-53 front end, smoother, softer feel and quieter, the Monroe's are a softer shock than the Bilsteins, this also helps as well.
I like my Bounder with the F-53 chassis but it just rode to hard on bumpy roads, no give, it just hammered hard, now its riding more like a car..
