Black streaks (Under Window)

At West Marine you will find a product that is called Black Streak Remover. It is made by Star Brite and will easily remove the streaks.

If the black streaks are on your window leaving like a hard residue that seems impossible to get off, then you need to compound the glass. Yes, using a rubbing compound something like Meguiars M100 Pro Speed Compound or similar will remove this and will not scratch the glass. Follow through with a polish and then simply clean the glass like you would normally.

In the future, you'll need to find way for the water to run away from the glass to prevent this from happening again. You can also try using Rejex paint sealant on the glass as well which will also help the glass.

rockhillmanor: I would not be using every thing else if the Black streak removal you speak of would work it works on the black streaks from the roof but not from under the windows. Roy

There is no problem with the black streaks from the roof, all kinds of products to use. But the black streaks under the window is a different story. Nothing I have tried will work that includes awesome. I will go to the dollar general and find the mean green mildew destroyer, if not will go to western marine for help. Thanks to all Roy

Not quite sure why everyone wants to try all types of household chemicals that normally don't work and can ruin an RV finish when Black Streak Remover is formulated FOR black streaks and is what works with one spray no rubbing and is safe to use on an RV.?

There is a product made just for that and it's been around for decades, "Starbrite Black Streak Remover", it's available at most large auto parts stores and on Amazon, or just Google it and find the nearest store that carries it. I use it on both painted aluminum and fiberglass, doesn't harm it. Just spray it on and wash it off with a soapy sponge, really easy. Also, put a good paste wax, not polish, on those areas and the streaks will take much longer to appear and when you first notice them they'll wipe off with a dry soft cloth such as an old T shirt.

I've used this stuff and it does work well and the camper will look nice. However, there was still a very very slight fade of black when I did mine. My camper is white, so maybe thats why I can see it. I would use it again since it worked well.

Have a similar issue with my pickup. Dirt bleeds from the mirrors and door handles leaving that same black streak.

We have also found the streaks under the black window frames to be harder to remove. We only get them on the ones not covered by awnings. I tried Awesome cleaner and it didn't work very well. A camper told me about Mean Green Mildew Destroyer that can be purchased at some Dollar General stores. He found some for me and I tried it. Worked great. It does have some bleach in it also, but works much better than bleach. I read somewhere about a product you could put on the frames that protected them from UV rays and helped top the streaking, but I don't remember what it was or which forum I read it on. Anyone know what it was?
