Black tank cleaning problem.

I recently purchased a former rental 23A Thor/Majestic class C from Cruise America. I was under the impression that most black tanks are directly under the toilet, and when you open the trap, you can put your rigid magic wand straight down in the hole and rinse the tank.

This unit has an elbow under the trap about 10 ins down or so. I can't get the wand down in there. Do some of you have the same issue? Do they make a flexi wand of some sort to get down in there?

Sorry for all the "Crappy" questions. :)
  • A offset is not unusual,my Tioga has one and a rigid wand won't work.

    This One will work.

But I got tired of dragging the hose in and all the mess that it made
So I installed a Quickie Flush in my Class C and it was one of the best Mods I have done, and pretty simple.

I picked the Quickie Flush over the Tornado because of the high failure rate of the swivel part. A few of my friends had them fail and it leaves it useless in the tank. Freezing around here is not a problem just a poor design.

The only thing that I changed is where the hose connects up with the flusher I put a 90 Degree Elbow in it to reduce the strain on the hose and make it closer to the tank.

It looks like this when finished, with a quick disconnect on the end.

Don't get discouraged if it leaks at the hose connections at first they are sometimes hard to get tight. Tightened mine up and have had no leaks anywhere.
Another suggestion is to make a test hole in a piece of wood or something and test fit the device to the hole. I found that the hole size suggested was much larger than needed.
    Good Luck.
BTW Welcome to the Former Rental Club
  • There are a few manufacturers that dump bathroom sink into the black tank - or at least there were several years ago. I don't remember the brand but I would be watchful for this kind of connection when comparing products.
  • Rockhillmanor,
I think that you are wrong about the wand that darsban posted. I was at a RV show that the Valterra company demonstrated their wand. They demonstrated the wand with four different types of angles going into the tanks and it worked perfectly. and this statement "And you will also be surprised how quick it takes to run the water in the sink to fill your black tank. Will make you think twice about washing up, brushing teeth in the bathroom sink if you have a large family. THAT is how black tanks fill up so fast" is also wrong. I'm sure if you look that you will see that your bathroom sink is trapped to stop what you are talking about. I know an inspector in the industry that would like to have the name of the manufacturer of the coach that puts any sink water into the black tank.
  • I bought that stupid wand too. ditch it.

Fill up you tank with water and some cleaning agent and dump and repeat the process a couple of times. That's really all you need to do.

Note: you don't have to schlep a hose into your MH either.

"Most" bathroom sinks in Class C's dump into the black tank. All you have to do is run the bathroom sink to fill up the tank. When I am at a dump station I can fill that tank up with clean water from the sink to get in a clean water flush in no time flat.

And you will also be surprised how quick it takes to run the water in the sink to fill your black tank. Will make you think twice about washing up, brushing teeth in the bathroom sink if you have a large family. THAT is how black tanks fill up so fast. :W
  • My rig has a 45-degree bend and I have yet a need to wand the black tank. I don't believe we have a pyramid down there and putting about 5 gal of water in there after a dump and letting it slosh around while coming home seems to keep it sparkly clean. :)

  • Neither my 5ver or Class A go straight down one alternative above another below

Both available at CW and other places
  • Drain the tank to get as much "stuff" out off it. Then fill half full of water, a 1/2 cup of dish washing liquid, automatic dish washing liquid, or laundry detergent with a cup full of bleach and then go for a drive over the curves roads you can 5hink of. Lots of stops and starts so the contents of the tank can slosh around and beat anything loose in the tank. Return home and dump immediately. This really is the best way to clean out the black tank.
