Born Free towing

A 27' Born Free with a Ford 6.7L turbo diesel. Would a 900 pound open aluminum cycle trailer with two 800 pound bikes be a chore for this RV to haul in our USA western mountainous region(s)? Thanks.

I'm going to duck when I say this. My toad is a Toyota Yaris standard. My car book states "Not recommended for towing".

Buy the EXACT same car in Canada - same builder, same engine, everything else the same. In Canada it can tow up to 1500lbs. It's in their books.

Buy the EXACT same car in the UK - same builder, same engine, everything else the same. In UK it can tow up to 2400 lbs.

Much of the standards of towing is based on government regulations and not "what it can actually do".

Let me put it like this, I do have a small hitch on my Yaris, and I've hauled sofas, washers and dryers, bags of concrete, etc. I never feel anything I've hauled back there. I would not push it to 2400 pounds, but I'd happily take it to the Canadian standards.

Research out your coach - internationally. You never know when politics get in the way of your dreams of towing.

My opinion, I'd tow that all day long.
  • Just from a quick look at Born Free's website I'm assuming you have an F550 chassis? Your rig will effortlessly handle that light load under any road conditions. Even an E450 gas would easily handle your trailer.
  • I do not think you would have a problem towing with that combination. We have been traveling with our 34' Endura and toad threw AZ, UT and WY with no problems the last 2 weeks. Ours is a 6.6 Duramax weighing 25K lbs.

Which RV? Which Ford Chassis? Just from "6.7 Diesel" I'd think it'd do quite well. The turbo on the Diesel keeps it from losing power at altitude like a Gasser does.
