Bounder 33C

Although the wife and I are pretty set on the class C we want, today we looked at a 2016 Bounder 33C. The unit is a 2016, but pre-owned, appears to have full options, with just over 2500 miles.

Not knowing about the Bounder, other than seeing them at campgrounds, I was inquiring from you, the seasoned class A people, about the quality of the Fleetwood product.

Entry level ? Mid level ?

I will be searching the Internet for info / reviews while hopefully awaiting replys here!

Thank you for any insite!

Another plus if you dry camp a lot is the 100 gal FW tank.
  • The name Fleetwood has been around for 50 plus years now but in 2009 after bankruptcy court the company was sold off to another company and most of the plants were shut down, the new company kept the Fleetwood name and some model names but I see it as a new company not the one before 2009.

However my 2008 Bounder has been a great RV so far, no major issues, just little stuff that I can fix myself.
  • Height - 12'10"

Pass thru storage is why they got rid of the storage bins attached to the slide out. So in the 2016, yes. In our 2014, only the very back bins are pass thru and they are only about 10" high.

Typically someone trades in a brand new RV because it was too small.
  • Thank you all for the info. 90% of the time it will be just the two of us, and we will be only 1/4 timers at best....lol.

I focused on the C class due to having under roof parking for 35 feet. The Bounder will make it by inches. I will also need to check height.

Does the 2016 Bounder have pass through storage underneath ? Do to the rain I did not check that.

.....and yes, why would someone trade in a 2016 already ? Good question, with allot of possible answers that I will try to get answered if we decide to move forward.

    Thanks again !
  • We have a 2014 Bounder 33C and are very happy with it. We have driven it over 30K miles in the 20 months we have been living in it - Florida to Alaska and back - so it has gotten quite a bit of use. We are very happy with the layout, the reason we bought the 33C; it is perfect for two people and we can fit in many places larger rigs can't. We also liked the CCC - 3500 lbs, more than enough so we felt comfortable adding 600W of solar and 2 more batteries.

When we first purchased it, we had 3 issues that were repaired immediately with no delay: a window was not sealed properly, the outside light was cracked and shorted out, and the power gear leveling jacks had a pinhole leak. We have had a few self induced issues: water pump shook itself apart on Alaska roads, steps broke (you can't ride them down), a microwave bracket snapped on Alaska roads, and the city water valve broke (a quick and easy side of the road replacement).

We looked at the 2016 33C and decided we would not trade ours, despite the fact that it had some upgrades we really wanted. What we wanted: less carpet - lots less carpet, improved doghouse, the change in the bathroom/bedroom door configuration. We didn't like the 'upgraded' flush mount windows; they barely open and since we dry camp a lot, this was a deal breaker. We also didn't like that the storage under the living room slide no longer comes out with the slide. This allows more storage but makes it a real pain to get to.

We plan to continue fulltiming in our rig for at least another two years. Maybe someday we will change rigs - either larger or smaller - and would have no problem getting another Bounder.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask...
  • We have a friend that has a 2014, they are really pleased with theirs. No major troubles and it gets used a lot. We also like the 33C and have considered trading our Itasca class C for one.

  • FWIW, we have a 1996 Fleetwood Southwind. I think the quality is great. I've had no problems with anything falling apart or failing because of the craftsmanship used while it was built.
I would buy another Fleetwood if I liked the floor plan.

My question would be, why did the previous owner trade/sell a 2016 with only 2500 miles?
  • The Bounder has been around for a long time and has always been somewhere around the middle to upper end of the Fleetwood Class A gas line up. Personally, I think it a good bang for the buck and a nice coach. You rarely hear anyone with major complaints.
  • First thing is test drive on hi-way, see how you like the drive. I have a Coachman something like it, we like it a lot after putting a rear trac bar on. The best thing over a C is leg rm. on pas. seat, and using driv. & pas seat when parked. They turn around. Rob.
