bounder hp

Can anyone explain why the hp in the bounder dropped from 362hp in 2016 to 320hp for 2017 models?
Thank you!
  • Ford re-rated (and possibly adjusted the tuning of) the V10 engine. There are no physical changes to the basic engine. If you look carefully, you will find that the RPM at which the power is rated also changed.

I think the changes were made to meet emissions standards; either sound or exhaust or both.

By all accounts, the real world performance of the revised engine and new transmission is better than, or at the least no worse than, the older version.
  • Thank you. Makes sense, but a 42 HP drop sure looks bad even if there is not a noticeable change.
I have the almost same Ford V10 in my Class C, at 305 HP, and have concerns about trying to climb a hill in a much heavier Class A with just 15 more HP (320 HP).

I don't know about the 5 vs 6 speed change, but will be looking for the stats.
    Thanks.
  • The new HP rating is at a sane and manageable RPM, not screaming RPM.

Much more realistic in a heavy vehicle.

Have not compared HP/torque of the old engine at new RPM-- doubt there is much difference. If anyone has it, would be idly interested.
  • Old news. Nothing has changed except that now Ford is publishing the HP at a lower RPM (4000 vs 5000). Torque is exactly the same as before.

I think a 5 speed on the F-53 vs the 6 speed would be almost the same if you have the 5 Star Tuning on the 5 speed F-53 and yet have more HP as well.
