Brake and Hot lead from 7 pin plug

Thank you all for your input, after looking deeper into the wiring from Coachmen I would feel better running new wires to the plug for the Brake Controller and Power lead. I will run new 12 ga wire since all they run to the plug is 16 ga. thank you again.

I don't know if the cab chassis are anything like the pickup but Chevy does not put a fuse in the hot line to the plug. Under the hood in the fuse box it was I believe fuse #1 and it takes a 40A fuse. On the brake wire I have no idea but the wire tuner is a god idea for tracing a wires.

For GM trucks. Go to the GM Upfitter site. Download the appropriate manual for your Chassis. You will find electrical drawings that show location of wires/harness, connector pins and wire colors. Just about any information needed to make modification to your GM chassis.

Check the fuse box, look for the trailer 30 amp. Most likely the spot is empty. Install the correct fuse, the hot lead probably will get power. Look for the brake controller pigtail, plug it in and wire in your controller.

Save all that searching, I'm betting it's a Ford chassis.

The reason? Ford don't install the relays that power the brakes or charge wire at the time the chassis is built.

All you need to do is install two relays in the under hood fuse box.

From the 7 pin plug the wire should go to the left side (drivers side) and run on the frame it is the the wire loom that powers the rear lights, some times there will be a plug on that loom for the trailer cables to hook up.

On some of the new vehicles this cables are either pre wired from factory or can be hooked to the unit under the dash, check with your manual for the location of where the dash wires are.

Some cables are run from the dash to the lower panel left side and then out to the frame trough a hole under the door plastic runner.

There should only be one hot wire, if more are hot there is a short along the wire loom, depending on the lenght of the RV, and it seems to be a 28 foot, they might have added a length of loom cable, check to see that the cable has not rubbed against the frame or that when the rear lights where installed they did not pinch a cable or the house cabin on the frame.

Maybe a wire tracer would be useful. A high frequency transmitter is connected to the wire and then a little receiver makes a sound when near the wire. I see them in hardware stores intended for use in homes.

Ok I have no wire to hook up for the Brake or the Hot lead they are run to the plug but can not be found on the frame to make final hook up was asking if anyone else had this problem with their Coachmen Leprechaun. This is a Chevrolet C4500 frame. I'm trying to find the wires to hook up.

Do you have a brake controller installed? If not, you will not get voltage on the brake wire. Of course, we're assuming you are testing while pressing brake pedal.

By "hot" wire, do you mean the 12V charge wire? I've read some vehicles come with a fuse missing for this circuit. Also, depending on chassis mfr, you might need to turn the ignition key to "On" position. I believe it is Ford that usually shuts off this circuit when key is off.
