Brake Controller?

I have a cargo trailer with electric brakes. I installed a brake controller on my pick up so I can pull it and an wondering if I need to do the same on my 2013 Tioga Montara. If so, what model do you recommend, and what pig tail is needed? I've looked on line and in the owners manual with no joy. There is a lot of brake controller info for Ford F series, but haven't seen a lot on the E450. Thanks.
  • I guess I need to rephrase my question. In order for the electric brakes to function on the cargo trailer, does the Tioga Montera require the addition of a brake controller, or will the electronic brakes function w/out one? I had to add one to my pickup in order for the electronic trailer brakes to function. I want the brakes to function regardless of any law.
  • Depending on the laws in your state, you are required to have brakes on any trailer weighing over 3,000 or 3,500 lbs, and for them to function, the TV has to have a controller. Not sure what exactly to recommend by way of specific models, just wanted to say it isn't just a matter of "should I" but a matter of the law. Have a wreck with any rig that isn't legal, and you will find yourself buying the entire mess, no matter what else happened.
