Brake Interlock Switch

Hi Guys, I've been away for a while...and the RV has been sitting......
My 1996 V8 Fleetwood Southwind Storm keeps popping fuse #9 in the dash fuse block. That fuse is keeping the RV from starting.
I had replaced the brake interlock switch at the pedal and found a DIY jumper (about a foot long) from one of those wires had broken loose at its far end. I can not find the other end. I have no idea why that switch would have been jumpered, but suspect the other end is shorting. Does anyone know what might be going-on with this fuse/jumper? BTW, the other functions on that circuit, the turn signals and flashers, are also not working of course. I disassembled the multiswitch for the blinkers and cleaned it, but no improvement.
thank you!

  • Thank you Jim@HiTek.
I used your suggestion with a probe-tester-light-thing and was able to find a short in the brake light line at the rear of the rig. My fault, I installed a string of wires thru a frame clamp and pinched the brake light wire.
    Thx for the help!
  • Head for a auto parts store and buy a 2 filament automotive bulb with the kind of bent over wire leads that are used to make contact. Straighten the wires and crimp them, two at a time, in a 1/4" male connector that will fit in place of the fuse that's blowing.

When you turn on the key, the bulb will glow. The brighter the light, the stronger the short or load. Then you can test all over without having to replace fuses all the time.

    Good luck.
  • Hello, thanks for the quick replies.
It is a Ford. hmmmm...I checked the fusebox and don't see anything lose or controller related.
  • Could the jumper have been for a brake controller?
If so there may be a DIY wire at the fuse box which you can disconnect
