Monaco interlocks?

And so in another thread the windshield had cracked and popped out of the frame because the operator wanted to bring the slides in before the jacks fully retracted? I understand the thought that it would be more convenient tied into the brake circuit but the question in my mind would be why did the chassis engineers decide against it. Not hard to do just tie the relay signal into the brake on signal and done and yet why was it not done that way. The smart wheel was originally used in the trucking industry and then dropped due to failures. Prevost designed there own and now have one that works fairly reliably.

Another thing on my list is Docking Lights. Diplomat's and Endeavors have them, Knights and Ambassodors do not. I want em.

Hmmm, how about a smartwheel? could I retrofit that?

Sounds like you have thought this out well, and I agree with your decision. Just because the manufacturer has it the way it is, is not always the best, it just covers there tail end for liability I'm sure.

Don, Thanks for the offer, I'll send the PM, and I can read the schematics, and your former Diplomat wiring will be very similar to my knight.
I do have a partial set of schematics for the knight, will have to pour through them.

One problem with schematics is they do not tell you "WHERE" to find this stuff.
Was hoping to find someone who had done this, I'm certain I've read about it before.

And P Kennedy, (and anyone else) If you've read my post, I'm not planning to DISABLE the interlock, just MOVE IT.
Nevermind second guessing Monaco's choices (as if we've never done that) but it even makes more SENSE to interlock these things off the parking brake. If that brake is on, coach ain't gonna move, period, safe as it could get.

This is one of those little projects that's been in the back of my mind for a long time, and I'm finally getting time to address it.

I'm also gonna rearrange some of the rocker switches. Right at my left hand is the mirror heat switch, I never used it, and the pedal in/out switch, used that once, day I bought the coach, and two others so obscure I don't recall what it does.
I'm gonna move those up to the panel below and to the left of the steering wheel, and bring switches I WISH I could reach and use, the ICC and fog lights, and the windshield visors, right at my left hand.

Jim.....Unless someone has done it before, I think it will be a pain to find where they tied that interlock in. I do have schematics to the 2005 model line and they may be of some help because I don't think things changed that much.

If your good at reading electrical schematics you might find what you're looking for. Send me a PM with an email address and I'll send them to you.

It may be as simple as pulling a fuse and deactivating the interlock.

The Source Engineering guys use to be Monaco techs and may be able to help you to.

So you fail to follow a safety procedure because you feel the safety procedures laid out don't meet your non-selfish needs. Manufacturers develop safety procedures based on incident claims and government requirements. We all make mistakes but we constantly teach procedure to prevent incidents from occurring. I like others don't see the problem with the unit.......the message I read here is you like shortcuts based on being impatient. Before you leave anywhere with a large unit circle check prevents the very situations you describe happening yourself.

Exactly my procedure. I fail to see the issue.

I believe it is fuse 22 in the front run panel that when pulled allows you to start the engine and run the slides at the same time. Just something I remember reading about the slide relay fuse.

I appreciate the time to make your replies, but I was really not looking for a debate, not on Monaco's leveling procedure, and not on my being too lazy to start - stop - restart the engine while preparing to leave a campsite...

And of course we don't even want to talk about the time I drove off with the door awning extended, or the 45 minutes on the side of the road before I shut down the diesel and hit the switch again just for snicks.

One wire... currently goes from the ignition circuit to the power relay? for the awnings, and also to the slideout control boxes...

Which wire?
How is it labelled?
Does it go anywhere near the parking brake interlock?
under the dash? or in the front run bay?

I agree.....I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. I had a Monaco for 9 years, never an issue.

Arrive at the campsite, connect hoses and power cord (gives extra power while putting slides out and lowering jacks). Put slides out, dump air and level.

When you get ready to leave, start engine, let air fill which will inflate air bags. Once the pressure starts to reach 100 psi, retract jacks, they will have already lifted off the ground and there will be no sudden drop. Shut down engine, bring in slides and disconnect hoses and power cord. By doing the cord and hoses before slides are out and after they've been brought back in, you don't have to crawl under the slides.

Do final walk around, start coach and drive away.
