Brake light issue, stumped.

My LED high mount brake light quit working. The regular brake bulbs work fine in the tail light assemblies. Removed LED light, tested it on a known 12v source and it works fine. Found nothing obvious with the wiring on the coach going to the LED light...verified good ground. However, no 12v signal on the + lead going to the LED.

Fuse that powers the 'Brake Light Signal' solenoid is good and solenoid works when brakes applied. Cannot find a separate fuse or separate circuit for the LED high mount light.

What am I missing? Anyone with a CC of similar vintage know if the high mount light is on a separate circuit?

  • Trace the wire back to where it is connected to the main brake lights. You should find your problem pretty fast. I suspect itis where it is spliced into the main brake light circuit.
  • Don't know about motorhomes, but in a standard vehicle, the Cyclops must be wired on a separate source, so if your regular brake lights fail the 3rd will still work. That is where I would start my problem solving, looking for a wire from the brake switch that does not activate the regular brake lights.
