You've already done half the troubleshooting, I think.
Working tail light implies that the ground is (probably) good. Working brake light on the other side means that the wiring from the front of the RV to the back is good. The problem logically has to be either the socket or the wiring between the two brake lights. (I'd also check that the new bulb is OK, just for kicks, before diving in too much deeper. It's rare, but far from impossible, for brand new light bulbs to be bad.)
I did check that....the new bulb worked in the other tail light...
