Brakes dragging on a P-30 chassis

I noticed my driver side rear caliper was hotter than my other ones. I removed my wheels and cleaned the caliper slides and brakes with a wire wheel. I did both rears. Those dual tires got heavier over the last 10 years. All though some what better that rear side is still running hotter, so I assume the problem is the caliper piston not returning all the way. Have any of you removed the piston and cleaned it with success or just replaced the whole caliper? The brakes were last changed in 2007 by a shop but not sure if the calipers were replaced then.

  • P30's are notorious for Rubber brake line problems. The inside deteriorates and the pressure of applying the brakes allows the brakes to be applied but the return is inhibited by the inside delamination of the brake line.
SO if you replace the caliper replace the brake line it is only about $20.00 more
    I learned from experience
  • My neighbor did the brakes on his P30. I believe that the calipers from Rockauto were only about $50 each so he just replaced them. You might check and see if it is worth messing with the piston once you have everything apart.
