TT brakes dragging

I noticed my Prodigy controller displaying a number while I was coasting down to be road with foot OFF the brake. I felt liked it was applying brake force. Wheels felt a little warmer than normal, so I'm sure the brake was dragging.

Think this is a controller issue? Or 7 way plug?
If I put the adjustment knob to zero, the problem goes away, but so do my trailer brakes!

  • Did u check to make sure your brake light switch isn't activating intermittently as u drive? My old F150 used to pop off the cruise control on even minor bumps because of a quick split second trigge of the switch... Noticed if I put my left foot behind brake pedal and held it up it didn't happen
  • If you put the controller to "0" and the problem goes away, the issue is definitely with the controller, not the manual brake adjustment. You'll have to remedy the situation immediately or you will have no brakes. Especially with drum brakes, they heat up then fade to the point they won't work.

I'd call Prodigy customer support. They will be able to diagnose the problem. Even if the controller is out of warrantee and you have to spring for a new controller, you can't use the existing one the wY it is.

Your trailer brakes have a manual adjustment using the standard BRAKE TOOL just like your truck brakes do. I jack up my trailer wheel and spin the wheel adjusting the brakes until it start dragging - then back off a 1/4-inch or so...

This manual adjustment is in addition to your electric brake adjustment using the BRAKE CONTROLLER settings..

ETRAILER.COM should have some good info on their site for making the Electric Drum Brake Adjustment..

Found this on-line as well that has some good info with more photos...
