A really LOT of repair shops like to "sell" you things you don't really need.
When my 8 year old C was inspected, they told me that all of the window seals were failing and MUST be replaced or I would have water leaks. Total BS. The exposed edges of the rubber gaskets had some small cracks. The cracks did not extend into the actual seal area.
You are right to be cautious but they KNOW how to scare you.
