Thanks for responses. To answer some of your questions and input -
1) "darsben1" - I live in Albany NY., but can travel a little bit in order to get this resolved reasonably and safely.
2) As far as NY vs FL pricing - yeah, the FL dealer who first said the service valve was no good, was about $60 less in labor than NY. came back with, but same for valve part. And FL said the tank was fine. NY said if they replace the service valve ( total $430) then they MAY find that the tank leaks, so they are recommending the whole new tank ($1250 total). So now its a "gamble.
I'm not even positive that a service valve is needed since it passed the first pre-purchase inspection via manometer drop test. Im kind of at their mercy. I had used the heat and had never smelled any odor, so I'm thinking the tank itself is not leaking.
3) klutchdust" -regarding compressor pinhole tests and taking it to such a shop- i am having a hard time finding any kind of shop that is not an RV specific shop ( propane dealer, etc.) - to even look at anon board RV LP tank. "klutchdust" - Do you , know what that device to test for pinholes that you mentioned is called? What kind of shop do you suggest exactly?
4) Matt, yeah i figure those tanks are thick, unlike the DOTs and should be revived enough with a little elbow grease and paint
Really wish I personally knew an RV tech that would give me the straight and honest answer. I'd really like to get it wrapped up. Kinda stressful.
Any other aspects you all can think of?
I'm about ready to just take it out of the big dealer shop and try one more mom and pop place in my area , not say anything, but just ask for a LP test and see what they come back with.
Again thank you for taking the time to read this and offer your insights and ideas. 'Least Im not totally alone in this.
