Broken inside door handle

The inside house door handle broke off of the 2000 Minnie Winnie F450 Chassis.

The outside paddle handle works and I can lock/unlock both locks to the door from the outside. But, if I close it, I have to exit from the cab....drat! Plus, I'm camping now.

I've got the parts catalog and contacted the gal at the MOBILITY R.V., INC. HANLONTOWN, IOWA 50444

She wants to send me a $42 part but I don't know if its the inside and outside parts with all the locks or just the inside handle.

She says " 039979-06 is the interior latch ".

There is a flat metal plate inside with square hole in it and it is loose and is where the handle stem attached.

I haven't taken it apart yet to see exactly how it works, where the break is etc. IOW, I cant tell if I need the complete unit, inside and out, or just the inside portion.

I did see some new units on ebay with what looks like nickel coating, dont think its SS and at Factory RV Surplus.

Anyone replaced one of these?

  • Does not look at all like my tri-mark lock. But Winnabago does have an online parts catalog, and I see it in there. Don't know who made them.

My tendency would probably be to replace the whole lock, rather than mess around, trying to make something work. Especially if a new lock is only a few bucks more than just the part. But that is just me

Is it by chance a Tri-Mark Lock? They were a real problem child in that vintage.
If it is then I have some knowledge.
Has the door been opening hard and sticking, perhaps the reason the inside handle broke?

If so my advice open the door as little as possible if a all until you can replace the whole unit.

Tri-marks in that era had a tendency to break in the door closed position. The internal mechanism breaks. But before that they will open hard. If that happens they are extremely hard to replace.

However if you can get the door open they are maybe a easy 20 min job. A whole new lock should be about 80-90 bucks.

On ours we had to tear part of the door apart to replace it, not fun.

If your lock is not a tri-mark then I have no knowledge

Winnie - I had glued the fiber gasket to the bottom frame. After that, it was hard to close. Eventually the inside handle kinda bent but worked. Then here in Oak Mnt, it broke off.

The door opens and closes and its fully functional from the outside. I can lock both locks and the outside handle works,

    I cant tell if it is a Tri-Mark. See pics;

  • I would suggest that you go to a lock smith and perhaps get a whole new unit. Likely they will have something that will match the thickness and work for you.
