Broken Thetford toilet - replace part or entire toilet?

We have a standard Thetford toilet in our nexus 28p. The ball valve flap does not open or close when the foot pedal is depressed. It is not stuck in any way. It is out of warranty. My question is ...

There comes a point where you can buy parts, or just pull the pooper and upgrade. This is quite subjective. The nice thing about a complete toilet upgrade is that it is under warranty, so any subsequent breakages are covered for a period of time.
