Building My Motorhome

The folding chairs came with the motorhome and the fabric matched the sofa and the other two regular dining chairs. Another good thing about the folding chairs is that you might just have the two of you so you don't have to deal with walking around the extra chairs. Also, our table had extensions which we took out and stored in a closet when we moved from place to place. When we set up again, sometimes we didn't use the extensions because it would be only the two of us and the small size table was just fine. If we had 4 regular chairs they wouldn't have fit at the small table so what to do with them?

2gypsies, are those the chairs that came with the Motorhome or ones you added?

We've had both booth and dinette and prefer the dinette. Ours also pulls out and has 2 additional leaves so it will seat 4 people comfortably.

I had to alter the booth in the gasser because I couldn't get the driver's seat back far enough to be comfortable driving. I had to unlatch it before booking out and push it back into place to eat.

We used the folding chairs a lot because we many times, had guests for dinner or just for extra folks sitting around talking. We stored them in the bedroom closet standing upright and were very easy to get out. They are very sturdy and since they have fabric coverings with nice wood for everything else they don't even look like a typical metal folding chair.

If there is only two of you then you'll rarely have the folding chairs out . used for guest seating only with them away you have ample room.

I have two matching folding chairs stored in the basement and cannot remember when I last had them out, but if you click on "How I spend the winter" in my post above you will see why I never use them. When on the road I rarely need more than two seats for dinner, hence the years since I last used the folding.

I think dinette with the table and chairs is preferred by my wife and I. I see that some motorhomes come with four standard chairs. Others come with two standard chairs and two folding chairs with matching fabric. I can see the flexibility of the two folder chars but is that the way to go?

Have you guys had the folding chairs and if so what do you think?

We too had both - Booth in our gasser, and Table & Chairs in our current DP. Of the two, we prefer the Table & Chairs.

One thing that we like about the table & chairs is the flexibility. We can detach our table from the wall a set it anywhere. We also have a leaf that we can add for more length to the table which has come in handy on several occasions.

We never had to secure our table or chairs. They never moved. Regular chairs are more comfortable especially if you're doing something other than just eating such as paper work/computer, craft/puzzles. Your back is better-supported. Booth sleeping is only meant for small children.

We used our recliners constantly and rarely the sofa.
