Burning man?

I was browsing Craigslist and came across this ad. Rent a 1996 Winnebago for the week at Burning Man (doesn't even say if tickets are included), for $10,000! But he'll give you a ride from the airport up to burning man for free, with the $10k rental.

I don't know if it's a joke or if he can seriously get that much. I doubt the motorhome is even worth $10,000. I'm almost tempted to call and see if he gets this or not.

  • Why not just rent an RV of your choice and drive it there? Stay for as long as you want. Get there and return on YOUR terms not someone else. That's got to be cheaper than the price currently on the table. Maybe the owner has one heck of a view lot? I doubt it! Check the round trip flight price. It's not cheap. There is a dirt air strip at the Burning Man Festival. Does the ad mean pick up at Reno or 1/2 mile away from BM on the dry lake bed?

  • It is a misunderstood event. We went for years in the early days, but now it is too big. I never took an RV but always camped in some large tents made with pvc, rebar and lots of huge tarps.

The new trend is luxury and some people fly in now and bring a staff. They make fancy meals and drink fancy wine. BFD. The original idea has been lost to a large extent. Still one of the great parties in the world.
  • Since the whole concept of Burning Man is gifting, perhaps someone should ask him to just give it to them for free. I can't believe that charge for tickets, instead of gifting them. :B
  • My guess would be, the tickets are not included in the rental fee.
The owner of the Winnebago really has nothing to lose.
If he gets his 10k rental price and the RV gets destroyed, he just needs to haul it to a scrap yard.
If it survives, he can clean it up and try again next year.

I would like to go to Burning Man but, I doubt it will ever happen.
  • I've always wanted to go to Burning Man, but I wouldn't take my own RV. I just looked at Burning Man ticket prices. Depending on what row you're in, they range from $900.00 a week to $1800.00 a week.

So, I guess two tickets and accommodations for a week could be 10K. But....that better include keeping all the tanks full/empty, at least some of the meals and a nicely maintained RV.
