Buying 08' Fleetwood Bounder 38B , Workhorse , any advice ?

I'm close to buying a 2008 Fleetwood Bounder 38B on a workhorse gas chassis . We will be towing our '13 Jeep 2dr Wrangler . Any advice on this unit would be a big help . Will a gas coach of this size with the Workhorse have trouble towing my Jeep on steep grades . We are trading in a Hurricane 34B on a ford gas chassis . The Ford was quite capable of towing the Jeep but I can't get used to the high rpm's it requires to reach max. torque and H.P. .
  • I have a 36ft coachmen with the 454 gas engine on W22 Workhorse frame. I pull a 13' Wrangler 4door. I am at my Max with the setup. The Wrangler is much heavier than my last tow. I am happy with it, but it does use more gas. I have no problems doing hills, it might slow down a little. Gary
  • My 2004 with the 8.1 does mountains fine pulling my 4,000lb toad.

I am typically at about 45mph at the top of most mountains here in the west.

I climb mountains based on RPM where about 3800 RPM achieves my maximum torque.
  • Just ensure that the brake recall was done on the workhorse chassis...you can call workhorse or go to the website with the VIN to check..hopefully the owner of the coach will have the paperwork if the work was done...if it wasn't I'd still buy the coach..but would not use until recall done.
  • Thanks for the reply's . The 38b came with the 24000 lbs. chassis . I've checked and it appears this chassis was not included in the brake recall .

It will tow it but 38ft is getting to the max weight that 8.1 can handle as far as I am concerned, your RPM's will still be high..
