Not correct.
The coach is currently titled and registered in Texas. The current owner will be purchasing a different coach, therefore will keep the current plates.
I’m not sure that it would be legal for me to drive it back with his plates anyway after I pay him and the title is signed over to me.

Call your local DMV. That is where I got my information.
I don't think the West Virginia DMV can help me with getting a temporary tag in Texas. Did AR issue you a temporary tag to drive the coach from Texas?
I have talked to the WV DMV about titling the coach here once I get it here. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just need TX title assigned to me. If the sale price were less than half the low book value, I would also need a bill of sale.
My only concern it driving the coach back to WV from TX without running afoul of the law.
