If you believe the value difference between a 94 and a 96 is really based on something printed in a book rather than purely based on condition, I suggest you spend a lot more time learning about the hobby before you buy anything.
Once again, that has been answered long ago in this post.....
Maybe it's the lack of inflection in the typed words, but I'm getting a condescending attitude from your posts. I never said that. What I said was the NADA is wrong, and that is because the loan value from the 94 to the 96 is a $4,000 difference. It is a simple statement of fact which makes the '96 much more attractive for us sub $20K RV shoppers.
I thought the forum was here to ask honest questions, hash out opinions and learn things. You have made several assumptions about me in your post which are incorrect. Just to get you up to date, I have owned in my short time on this blue planet:
2 pop up campers(one small, one large)
- 24' Class C
- 20' Airstream Argosy
- 8' truck camper
- 11.5' truck camper
-currently a '95 Class B Chevy campervan
I do all my own maintenance and repairs, such as completely gutting the water damaged overhead bunk on the 8' truck camper and rebuilding it. On the 11.5' TC I removed/repaired/replaced the two lower rear "wings" that were rotted. On the Argosy I completely gutted the old copper wiring and replaced it with "Pex".
Here is my thread/tutorial on how to repair the Wings on a Lance 1130 Truck Camper:
http://lanceowners.hoop.la/topic/lance-1130-wingskirt-rot-repair-wpics
I made a mistake on my Class B van. It had/has undercarriage rust, but the price was so low I overlooked it as a huge negative. Turns out it was way worse than I thought and I have been fighting a losing battle since day one.
So, I really think I have learned a bit about the hobby over the last 25 years. There is always more to learn and that is why I am here.
I am sorry you feel I am being condescending. I respect the fact that you have owned a handfull of RV's and obviously have a working knowledge of their mechanics. I also applaud you for coming to this Forum to learn more, as have I for the last dozen years or so.
I was a new car dealer for more than forty years and a member of NADA for the same period of time. As a result, I have a little better working knowledge of "book value" versus real value than a few other folks. I also operated one of the largest RV dealerships in the U.S more than twenty years ago and have some experience buying and selling them.
In my career, I bought and sold a considerable number of older vehicles that I paid far more than "book value" for and subsequently sold at a profit. In my experience, you can throw all "guides" out the window when you get close to the 20 year mark and there is no substitution for condition.
That is all I was trying to say. Certainly not meant to offend.
