One more thing....this was my first time driving an 'A'. Does anyone else here feel like they are driving a Fish Bowl on wheels?
;)
That brings up a good point. I have become so comfortable driving mine that I have to remind myself that it's a motorhome and needs more distance for stopping, etc.. A couple of times I caught myself driving the motorhome like I might drive a car. So, the fishbowl sensation will pass. I also experience some wander. It's not bad except when there's a decent cross wind and then life can get real exciting. I drove North out of Myrtle Beach a couple of years ago and the wind was gusting to 50 MPH. It was miserable. The best speed I could make and keep things reasonably under control was about 50 MPH till I got out from under that weather. And, one night out on the open interstate I was running about 65-70 and a semi-truck passed me like I was sitting still. The wind off that truck hit the RV like a hammer and when he went past I was sucked into his lane. Thankfully, he was the only fool on the road so I didn't hit anyone. Other than that it's just not a big problem. I will say that I can't let my mind wander when I'm driving the RV. I have to be on my game all the time. Little corrections are one thing. Big corrections could mean loss of control and a bad situation. But, I have gotten used to it.
There is one place that scares the poop out of me. On the way home coming West of Burlington NC on I-40 I have to take the bypass South of Greensboro. I need to be in the middle lanes. People drive like they are going to a fire there and I always seem to get sandwiched between two semi-trucks. I just stay on the gas and ride it out till the interstate splits off, but I hate it. We're heading that way on Sunday but heading East so, I wont have to deal with that. After Christmas we will head down to Myrtle for New Years so I'll come home a totally different way and avoid all of that.
