Hi Tom/Barb, there's a lot there! I have no doubt your 17 year old Newmar still works and performs like new. I know there are many folks out there with coaches even older than that who would say the same thing.
I think "status" comment may be reaching a bit too far. I reread the OP's original comments and didn't see anything indicating he was after a "status" coach! But I don't think any of us would choose to buy a "beat-up-ol-hag-mobile"!
To me, having a coach of any type and style and keeping it up to best standard is "status" enough.
But of course that may only be me...
Technically none of us "need" an Rv, and if you are full timing then you only "need" something to cover your head at night. If someone has the dough to buy a Prevost, is it a status symbol or simply that they have the means to buy what they want? Sure if someone buys a high end coach just to say they have it, I guess that's status, but really I think very few people buy a coach unless they really want it. So it's not really status, it's having the means to get what you want. I could care less about status but you can bet I would buy a high dollar coach if I had the means. In this case the OP wants the best bang for his $150k. I think we all want that don't we? Some folks just have a different budget.
