Cab heat

How can I disperse the engine heat when I stop from flowing into the coach area. I put roof exhaust fan on and start air asap. It still takes some time for this heat to go. Curtains don't do the trick. How do you deal with it? Thanks :h
  • If your chassis is a Ford the best solution is to stop it from getting so hot in the first place. It was explained to me that the reason the Ford engine area gets so hot is that the air flow up and around the engine when driving is very limited. The solution I was told was to have a air dam fabricated that would mount directly behind and extending below the front bumper and this would direct air up and around the engine flushing extreme amounts of heat out. This is basically the same thing that you are doing when you stop open the hood and set up a box fan except it is happening as you are driving.
This is what I had done and the difference is AMAZING. Gladys no longer has to have the Good Sam's directory on the passenger floor to keep from getting the hot foot. I no longer have to have to a towel between my leg and the doghouse to keep from being burned. The roof air alone is enough to keep us comfortable when driving. And we no longer have to use a heavy moving blanket between the cab and the house after stopping.
  • We found opening the hood when we set up camp does a lot to dissipate the heat faster. Inside I drape a comforter over the upper bunk down to the floor to block the cab off from the heat. Also I pull the curtains closed over the upper bunk. Every little thing helps.
  • What itchy feet said. I didn't believe it at first, but after trying it a few times it makes a lot of difference. After a couple of hours just shut the hood or the next morning if you are traveling.
  • Hi,

I open the hood and I place a box fan to blow air under the RV (use the front wheel well).

But realistically you have about 1000 pounds of metal to cool down between the engine and transmission. That works out to about 9000 btu's to dissipate. It takes some time.
  • When we had our (C), after stopping in the campground the first thing I did was to open the hood.
  • If is really hot or I want to have the coach cool when I stop I fire up the generator and run the roof air while on the road.

But mine is on a Chevy Chassis and doesn't put out a lot of heat into the cab area.
