Calif. Purchase by Oregon buyer - Sales Tax ?

We just sold our 36 Journey and plan to purchase a new coach, possibly from a CA dealer. One dealer mentioned having to take delivery out of state in order to eliminate the CA sales tax. Is this true? Oregon is thankfully a non sales tax state so I will obviously titling the coach at my home address. Is there any other use tax, etc. that could apply if certain precautions are not taken? The other possibility is purchasing from a Memphis dealer (Davis) for a new Tiffin. Any issues there?

  • Request an "intransit" permit from the CA dealer to take the motorhome back to OR. You'll need proof of insurance. You'll pay your sales tax to OR, which I know has none. You may need some paperwork to prove to the dealer that you are a resident of OR such as utility bills, tax return, etc.

  • Simple thing to do. Buy the coach and have them deliver it to you in OR. If it is a new coach and has never been registered, you will need the MSO (manufacturers statement of origin)to take to the DMV when you register it.

    Hello

Bottom line if you buy a product in California no matter where you live you will pay the sales tax from that jurisdiction.

That said if you are not a resident of California look at Pub. 52Pub. 52 Link. But I think a out of state delivery would be best if you are an Oregon resident.
