We stay at MBRVP twice a year, timing tied to grand kids birthday's in Jan and June. The park grounds are no great shakes, but well maintained. For us it's the ol' location, location, location. One mile dog walk around the peninsula out the back gate, the back bay and huge park out the front gate, a nearly adjacent public executive golf course, can ride bikes around Sea World and Mission Bay on dedicated bike trails, easy access to downtown San Diego and I-5 to run up the coast. We have stayed at Campland (NEVER again), visited Chula Vista (very nice but pricey and congestion getting through the city), Paradise by the Sea in Oceanside (ok if you like trains roaring by and motorcycles on PCH), and the beach state parks (draconian generator quiet hours, 8PM to 10AM, no morning microwave or hair dryer). There are several parks adjacent to I-5 (Santa Fe) and I-8 (several east of SD), typical freeway noise.
If you are wandering around SoCal, Pechanga RV and Temecula are great really great.
Good luck!
